WAYS TO HELP YOUR BABY WALK

Fact: First steps are one of those milestones in your bub’s early life you’ll remember forever.

Granted, once they start waddling around the house wreaking havoc, you’ll miss those stationary days of yore. But for now, you’re eagerly anticipating those exciting baby steps. In fact, there are even a few ways you can encourage baby to walk!

When Should a Baby Walk?

Most babies take their first steps around their first birthday but the walking age ranges from nine to 19 months.

Signs that your baby will be walking soon are:

· Rolling around

· Scooting across the floor

· Climbing stairs using their hands

· Pulling up on things

HOW TO HELP BABY LEARN TO WALK

You thought driving was hard: it can take up to 1,000 hours of practice before your baby can take its first steps!

However, parents can also play an important role in helping their babies walk at an earlier age. If you would like to encourage your baby to take their first steps, here are some ways to help your baby walk.

Strengthen Baby's Back Muscles

When your lil’ one can sit without any assistance, they’re at their first stage of gaining mobility. Sitting will help strengthen those important back muscles needed to stand and walk.

To help strengthen your baby’s back muscles, encourage movement in their head and neck by showing them interesting toys and items.

Making your baby lie on their stomach is also helpful as it will teach them muscle control, which in turn helps them when walking.

Coordination and Balance Practice

Balance and coordination plays an important role in your baby’s ability to walk. You can start helping your baby improve their coordination after they’re able to sit unassisted.

HOW TO HELP YOU BABY’S BALANCE

An easy way to do this is by using a push and pull toy or any toy that encourages crawling. This will encourage them to keep their balance while moving forward, backwards, and side to side.

As your baby crawls forward they will develop more strength in their neck, back, legs and arms, as well as more control in the hips. This will help them stand up and down safely.

You can turn the whole act of balancing into a game by sitting with your baby and helping them stand up. Then count how long they can stay up for before they tumble. Remember to praise them after each attempt.

Encourage Reaching

A baby’s ambition to reach for items can encourage them to walk sooner. Help by placing their favourite toys on a small table just out of reach. But make sure you support them above the ribs as they reach for the item.

When your baby becomes more stable, support them by holding their hips. This ensures their core muscles remain strong and stable.

As they pull up to reach the item on the table, help by showing them how to bend their knees to get back down to the floor. Learning this skill will ease their falls when they start walking.

We know you’d love to get the little cutie up and about independently, but keep in mind babies should learn to walk in their own time. Of course, there’s no harm in some gentle cajoling and support throughout the process!

Get Your Baby Their First Shoes

Babies tend to walk more easily barefoot while they’re still learning to walk as they can better grip the surface. But sometimes that’s not possible – especially when you’re outside or in a playground.

For those times, Bobux has a range of soft sole shoes that support the health of a pre-walking baby’s feet while providing grip and maintaining foot health.

FAQs ON BABYS LEARNING TO WALK

WHAT IS THE NORMAL AGE FOR A BABY TO START WALKING?

Babies typically begin walking between 9 to 12 months of age, though this can vary widely. Some babies might take their first steps as early as 9 months, while others might start walking closer to their first birthday. The readiness to walk depends on individual factors such as muscle strength, coordination, and confidence.

WHAT CAN CAUSE DELAYS IN BABIES WALKING?

Babies who spend a lot of time in baby gear without opportunities for free movement might experience delays. That is why it is important to allow your little one to move around, explore and grow their muscle strength. However, do not worry, variations in developmental timelines are normal.
