The warm up: what is sports luxe?
As the name suggests, sports luxe brings together sporty and luxury looks. Clean lines, comfort, performance, style; all these words come into play.
We’re not talking about ratty old gym wear. Nor are we talking about high-end fashion. We’re talking about a:
- Deconstructed, modern, clean look
- Made from soft materials, comfort, easy movement and style
- It’s edgy, a little bit hipster and asexual, often monochrome with a pop of colour…metallics and bold patterns also feature
- Suits all ages – newborns through to adult
- Trans seasonal – there’s no difference between the sports luxe summer and winter wardrobe other than layering and adding accessories like beanies and scarves and maybe a heavier top layer
The runway workout: some sports luxe kids show off
Now that you’re familiar with the sports luxe concept, we thought we’d find some pictures to illustrate the fashion.
As such, we’ve scoured our friend’s blogs, with the conviction that if a picture paints a thousand words, these pictures of babies will paint thousands of cute words. In fact, we’re scared there won’t be enough synonyms of cute to go around.
This t-shirt, courtesy of BabyBootique.com.au, epitomises the look. Due to its soft cotton feel and baggy design, this tee is sporty enough to run around in. And with the hood and the ‘All You Need is Love’ print on the front, it’s certainly fashionable enough too.
This cutie pie from Chi Khi is ready to spin a yarn, and boy would we listen, especially if this cherub wears that yarn beanie, those versatile tracky bottoms and the adorable grey Nylah Knit top while doing so. Again, this toddler fits the sports luxe bill due to the modern, clean, monochromatic and soft clothing.
These girls – sporting the most adorable raindrop pants and dresses from Littlehorn Kids – are rocking the sports luxe look. Both the pants and the dress are comfortable with a dash of hipster. The burst of colour that the raindrops give off work wonders.
And finally, thanks to our friends over at Styling the Tribe, we have this stylish Seed Heritage get-up. What struck us most was the combination of stripes with the bold, striking red and blue of the hoody. Add to this the versatile trackie pants and we reckon this look is a winner.
The exercise routine: where else can I find sports luxe clothes for kids?
We’ve given you a few names that we like: Baby Bootique, Chi Khi, Littlehorn and Seed, but there are any number of retailers that sell sports luxe for kids. Some may not even know they do.
We recommend trying your favourite kids’ boutique clothing stores first. Otherwise, department stores will be sure to have some sports luxe clothes, as will more mainstream providers like Witchery Kids or Country Road Kids.
Just don’t be scared to give some of these sports luxe fashions a shot. As we mentioned, your little angels should love the comfort and breathing space these garments afford, but without sacrificing fashion in the process.
With these clothes in your kid’s wardrobe, they’ll look great and feel great; you might even clock in a personal best in terms of attire.
